Oni-Con Hawaii

Hawaii’s newest Japanese pop culture convention Oni-Con is set to happen the first weekend in November, Friday-Sunday Nov 1-3.  Oni-Con features the latest in Japanese music, cosplay, anime goods, fashion and more.  Pen & Ink Works along with Hachi Maru Hachi Manga & Short Story Anthology will set up shop in the Artist Alley with a new array of art prints to sell alongside Vols 1 + 2 of HMH’s anthology.  Attention freebie collectors!  Grab an HMH bookmark, choose from one of four designs!

To satisfy your drawing fix stop by our booth and participate in our Infini-Koma or Infinity Panel Manga activity by filling in the gaps from a work-in-progress manga with your own story.  We provide the paper and pencils!  Check out what else will be going on.

Join us for our first Sketch-Meet of the summer at the Kaimuki Public Library! We’ll start off with a presentation by Hachi-Maru-Hachi, Hawaii’s own manga and short story anthology, including some tips on putting together a manga of your own!  Next, try drawing it  yourself, we’ll provide the paper and pencils, you bring the ideas. We ask that children under 12 are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Copies of the latest volume of Hachi-Maru-Hachi will be available for purchase with a portion of  the sales to benefit the Friends of the Kaimuki Public Library.

Spend an art-filled day in Makiki Heights.

ArtSpree is an annual one-day arts festival at the Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House in scenic Makiki Heights. Now in its 20th year this FREE family-friendly event is filled with art projects, musical acts, and of course great food!

Pen & Ink Works made its debut two years ago at this very event! While we won’t officially be participating, a few members will be helping at the various art-making booths including face painting, clay sculptures and the crowd favorite, the rubber band-jo!

Getting to ArtSpree is easy. Visitors park at Punahou Schools and take a free shuttle up to Makiki Heights. Parking or drop-off is not allowed at the museum. For more information please visit the event website.
