Bring your sketchbook and draw the day away alongside other passionate artists. Our Sketch Meets are free and open to all ages. We ask that children under 12 are accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Join the Facebook event page! (please note the change in time from our previous post)

LILIHA PUBLIC LIBRARY ANIME ART CONTEST

Are you an anime artist in grades 6-12? Then be sure to enter your work in the Liliha Public Library’s 3rd Anime Art Contest! Prizes include an amazing spread of art supplies and software including a set of Copic Markers, Anime Debut Studio software, and a Bamboo digital pen tablet. First 100 entrants will receive a free manga instructional booklet. Deadline is December 31st Winners will be announced on January 12, 2013.

Anime Art Contest is sponsored by the Friends of Liliha Public Library, Hawaiian Graphics, Kawaii Kon, Oahu Anime Art Explorer, Rightstuf.com, Sakura of America and Smith MIcro, Software, Inc.

Rules for the Contest

• Entries must incorporate the theme: “Books: Imagination at Work.”

• *Entrants must be in grades 6 through 12.

• Entries must relate to anime, manga, or video games. Fan art of characters is ok, as well as submissions of your own original characters.

• Three (3) entries allowed per person.

• Entries must be suitable for all ages. Depictions of strong violence, nudity, drug/alcohol use, smoking, etc, will not be accepted as an entry for judging.

• Submissions may be hand-drawn or digital art, but must be submitted on a white, unlined 8 ½” x 11” paper.

• Artwork must be original. “Tracings” of other works are not acceptable.

• Digital media must be printed out.

• Tape completed entry form securely to the back of artwork. Contact Liliha Public Library for entry forms to the Anime Art Contest.

• Immediate family members of HSPLS staff and employees of HSPLS are not eligible.

• By submitting artwork to the contest, entrants agree that Liliha Public Library has the role right to reproduce the winning entry in any way it sees fit to promote Liliha Public Library.

• All submitted art work will be available for pick up at Liliha Public Library, February 4, 2013 and must be picked up by March 1st if the artist would like it back. No attempts will be made to remind the artist to pick up their work.

• Entries must be received by Thursday, December 31, 2012. Late entries will not be accepted.

HACHI-MARU-HACHI VOLUME 2 A GO! 

A few Pen & Ink Works members have been hard at work creating a couple of new short stories for the upcoming issue of Hachi Maru Hachi, to be released at Kawaii Kon 2013 in March!  We finally have a preview of two of these stories below:

ANIME DAY AT WINDWARD MALL – WRAP UP

It was a busy day at Windward Mall, so busy that at times it appeared the anime fans and cosplayers outnumbered the holiday shoppers!  Kawaii Kon put on a great array of entertainment and competitions with plenty of prizes to give away.  Pen & Ink Works hosted a drawing table right next to our friends at Comic Jam Hawaii, welcoming visitors of all ages to join us in drawing, drawing and more drawing!  Thank you to the amazing Kawaii Kon staff and gracious hosts Windward Mall for this (free) slice of an anime convention experience.
