First Public Meeting!

Coming up on September 10th (Sat) is P&IW first public meeting!  Join us from 10:30-12:30 at the McCully-Moiliili Public Library as we host a short demonstration on manga drawing as well as offer guidance to anyone who’s interested.  Please be sure to bring in your manga-style artwork to share, receive advice or to simply talk about with a friend.

Our public meeting will coincide with the library’s annual “Mini-Con,” an abbreviated anime convention-style event which will include local comic artists like Audra Furuichi (Co-creator and the artist behind nemu*nemu), Jon J. Murakami (illustrator and cartoonist for the Star-Advertiser), and Kevin Sano.

“Insane for Ink” Manga Drawing Workshop on September 17th (Sat.)

The ancient and versatile medium of ink becomes the star of this in-depth workshop at the Contemporary Museum Honolulu in Makiki Heights. No previous drawing experience is required. Throughout this hour and a half workshop we will explore topics including line, texture and movement through the ink pen and brush. Connections to historical artworks as examples will also be discussed.  Workshop instructors are two recent Art graduates from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and life-long manga enthusiasts, Heather Matsuura and Brady Evans.

The workshop is from 1:30-3:00 pm and is $7 for members of the museum and $12 for non-members. Tailored for students aged 12 and up. Cost of materials is included in this fee. For more info contact, peninkinfo@gmail.com or to sign-up please call (808) 237-5217 or email education@tcmhi.org.
